AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT,

A slight drizzling rain delayed the commencement of play for about an hour in the morning, but the weather soon cleared up and remained beautiful for the rest of tho day. As. the day wore on a strong wind came iii) which for a time considerably interfered with the play. Satisfactory progress was made in the various events, but as had been anticipated a block occurred through two or three play era remaining in all events. On the whol-j the expected happened, and the recognised leading players have come through to the finals. In the men's championship singles Dr. Keith found Keith Duthie too much for him. The young Kemuera player played quite up to expectations, and although ho lost the second «ct the issue was never really in doubt. Both jilnycrs wero very tired, but Duthie lasted better and had matters his own way towards tho finish of the niatch.

A start was made in the semi-final of the men's championship doubles, between Mo Cutcheon and Abbott and Duthie and Tonks. After the latter pair had taken the first set, 6—l, and the second sot was —4 against them it was decided to stop play owing to the bad lipht. The match will bo resumed from where tho scoro now stands. Tho finals and the remaining semi-finals will bo played at tho Eden and Epsom courts to-morrow afternoon, although it is expected that some of the semi-finals will bo ployed to-day.
