POLICE FOLLOWING CLUE.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.

(Received January 28. 12.15 a.m.)

London, January 27. In regard to the mysterious death of Thomas Reeks, the young Sydney engineer whose body was found close to a disused pit near Wolvcr-

Hampton last week, it transpires that the week-end acquaintance at Liverpool of the deceased has relatives at Wolverhampton. His home is said to be at Leeds. Reeks is said to have told three

people that he intended to visit Wolverhampton, the three including the purser of the liner Empress of Ireland and the solicitor before whom he swore an affidavit in connection with Board of Trade papers. The police arc sending an officer on a fast boat to overtake the steamer Grampion at St. Johns.

After visiting his solicitor on Monday, Reeks returned to his hotel, and learning that Ramsden had gone to Leeds, made up a parcel of his pyjamas and a brush. He did not return to his hotel. The police have traced Ramsden to Leeds. Ramsden can throw no light on the tragedy. It is stated that the dead man met Ramsden at the Liverpool Hotel on Saturday, and that the two parted on Monday. The police are satisfied with Ramsden's story.
