TWO POLITICIANS FIGHT.

REASON FOR QUARREL.

Washington, January 20. A fight between Mr. B. Johnson, a Kentucky representative, and Mr. G. H. Shields (Attorney-General) yesterday broke up a meeting of the House of Representatives which was considering in committee matters concerning the district of Columbia.

The quarrel arose over the subject of increasing policemen's salaries, Mr. Johnson accusing Mr. Shields of "graft." The latter retorted, and Mr. Johnson then struck him, and the fight followed.

The other members of the com-. mittee eventually separated the combatants, Mr. Johnson shouting at the top of his voice, "Get me my pistol; I'll kill him !"

Mr. Johnson then ran off for his revolver, and the other men all took to their heels. .When Mr. Johnson returned, only the clerks remained in the building-

Mr. Johnson attacked them for their' interference, but refrained from shooting.'
