HON. J. A. MILLAR.

POLITICAL POSITION.

NO INTENTION OF RESIGNING. v

Statements have been published recently to the effect that it, was practically certain that the Hon. J. A. Millar, M.P. for Dunedin West, would resign his seat in the near future,.thus necessitating a by-elec-tion in this electorate in February or March. It was also stated that there would be at least four candidates for the seat straight-out Government candidate, who is a resident in the electorate, a wellknown Labour leader, who would stand in the Opposition interest, a United Labour Party representative, arid a Socialist.

Interviewed yesterday afternoon Mr. Millar said these statements were incorrect, as at the present lime he had no intention of resigning, and consequently there would be no by-election for his seat in February or March. He would still represent Dunedin "West during the next session of Parliament.

Asked as to whether he intended to stand for the seat at the next general election, Mr. Millar said that he did not know what his course of action would be. He did not know whether he would stand or not.

_ The Hon. J. A. Millar and Mrs. Millar intend to take up their residence at Remuera. Mr. Millar has been in Parliament continuously for 20 years, and at the close of next session he will have served 21 years. He represented Chalmers from 1893 until 1896, and since the latter year he has represented a Dunedin constituency. He was a member of the Ward Ministry during the whole term of that Administration from August, 1906 until March, 1912.
