LIEDERTAFEL SOCIAL.
VISITORS ENTERTAINED.
The members of the Christchurck Liederv tafel, who are afc present visiting Auck- y land, were entertained by the members ' of the Auckland Liedertafel at a largelyattended social in the Masonic Hall Princes Street, last evening. Mr. W. Colt ' man, chairman of the Auckland Lieder- ' tafel, presided, and welcomed the visitors, after which the toast of " The King" waa honoured. - The toast of the " Christ- , church Liedertafel" was proposed by the ' chairman, supported by Professor W. E. Thomas, and acknowledged by M;. A. Millar. The "Auckland Liedeiiafel" wasproposed by Mr. F. N. Meadows, and responded to by Messrs. Wright and George. The only other toast, which was proposed by Mr. S. J. Harbutt (secretary of the Auckland Liedertafel) was that, of "Arthur Towsey, Founder, Father and Friend." This was drunk with musical honours and great enthusiasm. All the speeches were of a felicitous nature, and a hope was expressed that the exchanges of visits between the two Liedertaiels would be more frequent in future. The speeches were interspersed with a capital programme of musical items. The Auckland Liedertafel rendered the part- ' songs " To Anns." " 0, Hear Mv Prayer - Roman War Song," and "0, Sorrow im J , Ch « st «hur.ch quartette (Messrs. Cookson, Vincent, March, and Millar) gave two excellent items sonss were contributed by Messrs. Aspinall and Allen Auckland) and Mr. March. (Christ- ' church). Mr. A. McElwain also gave two humorous items, which were much appreciated. , " When Evening's Twilight'' waa sung by the combined Liedertat'els. Refreshments were supplied, and a very successful and enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of " Amid Lane Syne and an exchange of cheers between the hosts and guests.
