SWOPE MURDER TRIAL.
LONG PROTRACTED CASE,
New York, January 2. The fourth murder trial at Kansas City of Dr. Hyde on the charge of the murder of Colonel Thomas Swope. a millionaire, will commence on January 12. At the first trial Hydexwas convicted of murder in the first degree, but the Supreme Court ordered a new trial. At the second hearing a juror escaped, and the result was a mistrial, and on the last occasion the jury disagreed.
[It is now nearly four years since Dr. Hyde was indicted for the murder of Colonel Swope. He viae also charged with having murdered Chrisman Swope. » nephew of the colonel, by means of strychnine, administered in medicine, and with having injected typhoid germs with intent to kill Margaret, Stella, Sarah, and Lucy Lee Swope, Georgia Compton, Mildred Pox, and Leonora Copridge. and also with the manslaughter of James Moss Hunton, a cousin of the millionaire, by "bleeding him in a neglectful manner." It was stated that Hyde murdered Colonel Swope by poisoning him, and then set about the task of exterminating the whole family, so that he might inherit the fortune.]
