FIRST DAY'S RESULTS.

Whangarei, Thursday. The first day of the Whangarei Racing Club's Summer Meeting was held to-day in brilliant weather. There was a big attendance. Results are as follows: —

MAIDEN PLATE HANDICAP, seven furlongs.—Mr. M. Calvin's Nimrod, Bst 61b 'Decleyl, 1; Mr. H. Sydney's Golden Grain, 's: 1010 (Kennedy), 2; Mr. F. E. Lew's The Gift, Tsl iMcDevitt), 3. Also started. Hawea 7st 101b, Miss Hilda 7st 91b, Master Regal 7st 91b, Myrtle 7st slb, Kahu 7st. Golden Gram was favourite. Nimrod was first away from an indifferent start, and, after leading all the way, won by a length, with two lengths between second and third. Time lm 30 2-ss.

, KENSINGTON STAKES HANDICAP, four furlongs.—Mr. J. Hedley'B Rajah, Bst 131b (Brown). 1; Mr. F. Loomb's Lady Alicia. 7st 101b (Deeley), 2; Mr. D. J. Lynch's Tripoli, 7st 131b iMcFlynni, 3. Also started: Kanewarra Bst llib, Vladinoy Set 101b, Methuma 7st, Undaunted 7st. Tripoli was favourite. Rajah led all the way, and won by a couple of lengths from Lady Alicia, with the rest of the field close up. Time lm 48 2-ss.

FIRST HURDLE HANDICAP, one and a-half miles.---Mr. P. Denny's Cloudy Dawn, 9st 101b (Roach). 1; Mr. W. Martin's Dogger Bank, 9st 6lb (McKinnon), 2; Mr. P. Conway's Vestal, 9st Sib 'McCabel, 3. Also started: Goiborne 9st 71b. Te Onga 9st. Cloudy Dawn was favourite, and won by several lengths. Time, 2m 495.

FIRST HACK HURDLES, IS- miles.-Mr. J. Hedley's Rajah, 10st 121b (Jones), 1; Mr. Clot-worthy's Sabine, 9at 31b (McFlynn), 2; Mr. K. Finlayson's Luscombe, lOst 91b 'Chaffey), 3. Also started: Cutler. 9st. Rajah was favourite and won by a couple of lengths. Time, 2m 545.

WHANGAREI CUP. 1} miles.—Mr. H. Weals Taimainupo, 7st 31b (Conquest), 1; Mr. E. Bank's Ruatangata, 7st 101b (Morris), 2; Mr. J. D. Kemp's Jolie Fille (Deeley). 3. Also started: Flying Soult. 7st lib, Self st, Master Theory, 7st. Jolie Fille was favourite and was the first to move, followed by Self and Taimainupo. The latter showed the way into the straight and won by a long neck after a splendid race. The rest of the field was close up. Self fell. Time, 2m 3 2-ss. RAILWAY HANDICAP, six furlongs.— J. Naysmith's Luros, 7st lllb (Deeley), 1; Mr. W. Pearson's Kanewarra, 9st (Conway), 2; Mrs R. Hawkin's Master Sly, 7st 101b (O'Shea). 3. Also started: Rosebery, 7st 61b. Won easily by several lengths. Time, im IS 4-ss.

PUBLICANS' PURSE HANDICAP, seven furlongs.Mr. J. D. Kemp's Prince Merriwee, 9st 51b (Deeley). 1; Mr. E. K. Plaisted's Master Theory, 7st 21b (Cullum), 2; Mr. H. Sydney's Golden Grain, 6st 71b (Conquest), 3. Also started: Bully, 7st 31b. The winner was favourite. The race was a good one and was won by half-a-length, with a head between second and third. Time, lm 30 2-ss.

FLYING HANDICAP, four furlongs.-Mr. D. J. Lynch'b Tripoli. 7st 131b (McFlynnl, 1; Mr. C. McStay's Lady Thorn. 7st 61b (Conquest). 2; Mr. F. Loomb's Lady Alicia, 7st 101b 'Deeley), 3. Also started: Appellon, 7st 91b. The winner was favourite and won by three lengths, with half-a-length separating second and third. Time, 49 l-sa. During the progress of the meeting a trainer named H. D. Campbell was disqualified for a period of three months for striking Jones, the rider of Rajah, in the Hack Hurdle race.

Wellington, Thursday. A private cablegram received from Australia states that C. Emerson, who was disqualified at the Canterbury Park Meeting on Saturday in connection with the running of the horse Strathfield, is lodging an appeal against the verdict.

AUCKLAND DISTRICT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the District Committee was held last night, the Hon. E. Mitchelson presiding. A trainer's license was granted to John O Connor. A.R.C. COMMITTEE. At. a meeting of the A.R.C. Committee held subsequently, the following transfers were approved :-J B. Reid to W. Cwma. Ogier; G. D. Greenwood to D. McLeod (H.B.i. Lena. Accounts totalling £1356 were passed for payment. A rough statement of accounts in connection with tie Summer Meeting was laid on the table and snowed a very satisfactory result.
