A FATAL MISTAKE.
ELDERLY MAN'S DEATH.
An inquest was held yesterday before Mr. D. A. Sutherland concerning the death of Edwin Bywater, 76 years of age, t-jo was found dead in bed in his house in Third Avenue, Kingsland, on Sunday morning. Mary Dunn, niece of teh deceased, who had been acting as his housekeeper, said that the deceased had been in very poor health since the death of his wife in October last, soon after which he had met with an accident which resulted in two of his ribs being crushed. Since then he had been U6ing chlorodyne »a a remedy for insomnia. On Sunday morning she j.ad foetid him lying dead with an empty chlorodyne bottle beside his bed. He had never given any indication that he contemplated suicide, and witness was of the opinion that his death ivw quite Accidental. Dr. Stride stated that he had been attending the deceased for som« months, and knew that he suffered from sleeplessness. He was called in after deceased's death, and found that all the indications pointed to chlorodyne poisoning. It was quite probable that the deceased had inauvertently taken an overdose. A verdict was returned that death was due to an overdose of chlorodyne accidentally taken.
