AEROPLANE AT GROUNDS.
Thb ninth annual naval and military tournament and assault-at-arms, which is to be commenced at ,the' Agricultural and Pastoral Show 'Grounds. - Epsom, to-morrow, and will conclude on Monday, deserves to draw forth, 'on account; of its national character, the hearty support of the public. Prom every standpoint the ' programme has been arranged, both to present V good idea of the efficiency of New Zealand's defence . forces, and to give displays of an attractive character. ~,-,, .:'' • New Zealand's Aeroplane. ,£ ' -, ■ ''' ' -t '■ y '*■*•,' "-?•'" One important feature iof the tournamentis to be the exhibition of: the New Zealand Government's aeroplane. This machine can only be seen at the tournament, and thoi.e anxious to get an indication of what a military : flying-machine is liko should visit the show grounds for ... . -4* , ,*'- ,- ;." A tournament is always enhanced when the boys- of,the "blue bell trousers" are participants .in the various; events, arid their .popularity with the public never wanes. '-{■ The Philomel's "lads" have >entered for the .majority of the competitions, and, as the men belonging to the warship have lately had a*- busy time in dealing with; fractious and/turbulent tribesmen in the Persian Gulf, ' those who attend the tournament will have an excellent opportunity of judging how the Empire's naval defenders \i go about", their business; -'■ Invitations have been extended to the officers of -the Philomel to act as judges in the different ■events,,, ''„*'• '■:■. ■■' ''•">,''■"•''".." %4 f«■-'>■' j Alterations have been made in the course of the territorial land Senior cadet, route marches. In the territorial which takes place on Monday, the.men will procoed from the show ground -down. Green Lane to the Great -South Road, thence along to the Harp of Erin. , Turning to the right, the troops 6 will march along Campbell Road to the "Royal Oak Hotel, and from there they, will march-via the Manukau Road and One-tree Hill. Drive to Green Lane, and the stow grounds. The senior cadets' march,' •'- which will take place morrow, is to ;be along fa course from Green Lane to the Great South Road, thence along- this road to. the railway station in Market Road, -i The march will be continued to Sir John Logan Cam*/bell's ; - monument, and along the /.Qne-treft Hill Drive to the Green Lane entrance to the show grounds.. . ■ ■ ' ■ A' Lishter Side. ... ' • i Besides the military side of the toura?*mont, there 'will bo less : serious events, arid chief amongst these will be the ; harem race; v which place tomorrow. Such races are extremely amusing, 1 and always command good entries. The idea of tie race" is that <a lady has to be rescued from a, harem, and . the various stages ofithe | process towards this ; end aire intensely amusing. ; - ;?; ?rom ■ a spectacular standpoint, the artillery , drive by members of , the Royal New Zealand Artillery should ;: prove? most interesting. The drive, a musical one, is to be" given on Saturday and Monday by four six-horse teams of the Royal New ; Zealand Artillery. These teams have been assiduously practising ! to; make a ? fine display. This event is v not : a competition, but an exhibition of .'.expert.^ handling. field guns in intricate positions. The Royal Artillery men will use the guns. They are to" perform various evolutions with guns when proceeding at the trot and . the gallop, and ' the movements are to; be accompanied by appropriate band music.'.

'. ■ f, To-morrow night, in connection with the tournament, ■; a military display is to be held: at 'the Domain Cricket Ground. ;• For this the services ! of ; the Royal Artillery Band have been obtained, and, in addition to the tine programme arranged, the band will, no doubt, act as: a great "draw." If r possible, ; arrangements }- will she /made for a military rocket display- at 7.45 p.m.

A fcig-of-war is also to 'take places between the marines and stokers and ; the sailors of " the warship. The tournament begins, at 8 a.m. each day, and judges and officials are informed that ' strict punctuality ;• must be observed.
