The- visitors in their first innings scored 230, Tuckwell contributing 63, Carlton (not out) 42, Sandman 25, Snedden 17, Hemus 19, Hickmott 20. Taylor 8, Robinson 2, Tattersall 8, Bennett 0, and Sommervell 0. ' The sundries totalled 27. The Southern Districts replied with 142. For New Zealand, Robinson took fiva wickets for 33 runs, and Sandman three for 46. The weather was hot, and the wicket fast.
