NEW STEAMER LAUNCHED.
FOR NORTHERN WAIROA TRADE.
A new steame:-, which has been christened theOmana, was launched from Mr. G. T. Niccol's yard yesterday morning, and towed to the Queen's Wharf, where her engines were placed on board.
The new steamer is 85ft long, with a beam of 16ft, and she- has been built for the Kaipara Steamship Company for the Dargaville-Tangiteroria trade. She is a liebt draught vessel- and extremely suitabl for navigating the upper reaches of the Wairoa River. Sihe will be fitted with triple expansion engines, built by Ross and Duncan, of Glasgow. The Omana is fitted with electric light, and has accommodation for 200 passengers. She is a thoroughly up-to-date vessel, and a good exampls of the modern shipwright's work. It is expected that the vessel will be completed in about a fortnight, when she will sail for Kaipara.
