THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY.

Aftkb the 18th annual convention of the Theosophical Society was concluded on Tuesday, the delegates conferred concerning the various activities of the society in New Zealand.

The third annual conference of the New Zealand section of the Star in the East was opened by Mr. H. W. Young. A communication was received from the national representative. Mr. D. W. M. Burn, M.A., of Dunedin, who expressed disappointment at not being able to be present at the conference. The conference resolved to send loyal greetings to the national representative ana through him to the head of the Order, J. Krishnamnrti. The travelling organiser, Miss C. W. Christie, reading her report, said that 21 star centres had been visited, and addresses given. The greatest difficulty of the work was the scarcity of lecturers and attacks by newspapers. In many places the Church was in opposition. Still, with all this opposition. New Zealand was expecting the coming of a great spiritual teacher. The spiritualists came freely to the star meetings, for they understood that the human body could be used, when properly prepared, for the communication of great spiritual energy to the world of men. A great deal of mischief had bflen caused by the belief held by those who did not know that the members of the Order believed that the head of it was Christ Himself. Members were free to think as they liked as to how a great teacher would manifest himself to the world. Reports were read by the organising secretaries for the North &id South Island. The membership for the South Island was 562, and for the North Island 571, a total for New Zealand oi 11.33.
