A committee to inquire into the feasibility of expending 500,000 dollars in five years to educate farmers throughout the United States in the interests of the raising of cattle is shortly to be appointed by the American Meat Packers' Association. It is anticipated that such an educational ampaign would do much toward avoiding the beef famine with which the entire United States is confronted. According to Government figures, in 1907 there was about one head of cattle for each man. woman and child in the United States. At the opening of the present year, however, there was only six-tenths of one head of cattle per capita.
