The Auckland Weekly News Exhibition Number is now ready. A committee to inquire into the feasibility of expending 500,000 dollars in five years to educate farmers throughout the United States in the interests of the raising of cattle is shortly to be appointed by the American Meat Packers' Association. It is anticipated that such an educational ampaign would do much toward avoiding the beef famine with which the entire United States is confronted. According to Government figures, in 1907 there was about one head of cattle for each man. woman and child in the United States. At the opening of the present year, however, there was only six-tenths of one head of cattle per capita. This shows the alarming comparative decrease of 40 per cent, in cattle supply in a period of six years The Auckland Weekly News Exhibition Number is now ready. The result of improperly ventilated stacks is very often a conflagration so ii is not often that farmers are able b> carry directly after the crop is reaped, but they are often, templed to do so, and pay the penalty. Then where there is a green crop coming on the sheaves are difficult to dry, and this is against good keeping in the stack, with, the result that fires ensue, and heavy loses are encountered.
