Wangandi, Sunday. O.ve of the first white women to penetrate the heart of the Mangawcka district', Mrs. M. Collis, died on Saturday fawning. re . Collis arrived in the Dominion 36 years ago, her first home being in : Christchurch. On 'ho opening up of the Crown lands in the Hunterville district 30 years ago she and her husband *ero among the first of too settlers. to reside there, and about 10 years later. when Mangaweka was opened* for settlement, they took 'up one of the small farm clocks. She. passed through stirring times, and in case of sickness, when medical aid was unavailable, no one was Wore in demand or more favourably spoken of than deceased.
