The ceremony of. laying the foundationstone of tho new Y.W.C.A. building was performed by Mrs. Denniston in very unfavourable weather yesterday afternoon . Mr. W. Goss (chairman of the Citizens' Committee) said the. committee had in the recent _ campaign collected £5800. After deducting the. cost ot the campaign, the sum was a long way below their anticipations. The committee, after negotiations s received the offer of the Chard I Hall property for £2000. Tho expenses were as follows:—Cost of site and buildings, £3500; contract for new buildings, £3600; alterations, etc., to the Choral Hall and architects' fees, £600; i making a total of £7700. Moreover there | would be required £200 for equipping and furnishing the Choral Hall building, and ' extra working expenses, amounting to £2000, would have to be provided during 1 the next three years.
