A married couple, George and Elizabeth Cooke, appeared yesterday to answer to a charge of the manslaughter of .their son, aged 13. i .-,...... The cause of death was brain disease, but attention and nursing were lacking. The boy had been ailing for years, and weighed only 181b 2oz. He was covered with dirt and sores. Cooke gave ■ evidence that he was a bottle-washer, and left home early everyday. There was always plenty of food in the house. He did not take the child to the hospital because he had lost two brothers, as he maintained, through doctors. Both were found guilty, and were remanded for sentence.

CAPITAL SENTENCE PASSED. , Perth, December 12. A man name Odgers lias been found guilty of the murder of Mrs. Molyneaux at North Dandalup, in October, and sentenced to death. He protested his innocence. Odgers disappeared after the tragedy, and was discovered some miles away from the house where Mrs. Molyneaux was shot, with his jaw fractured by a gunshot. Apparently he had attempted to commit suicide. He was employed on the farm of a one-legged man called Williams, whose remains were recently found at Weroona. His skull had been smashed.

MINER ACQUITTED. (Received December 12, 6 p.m.) Melbourne, December 12. A miner named George Thompson was tried yesterday on alternative counts of shooting at two non-unionists with intent to commit murder, or to do grievous bodily harm. The incident took place in the Deep Leads mine at Beaufort, in October. Thompson was found not guilty. THE ELMSLIE MINISTRY. Melroctixe, December 12. The motion of want of confidence in the Elmslie Government, moved by Mr. W. Watt, the ex-Liberal Premier.of Victoria, was debated yesterday in the House, of Assembly, and now stands adjourned - 'to Tuesday. ' •
