BOY WITH INVERTED BRAIN.
SEES ALL THINGS REVERSED. A boy who sees everything upside dowi., ' writes from right to left, inverts all his | letters and figures, and draws and copies any objects the wrong way up, has been discovered at Chester le Street, Durham. He is 5 years old, and his case presents many similarities to that of an American I boy reported recently. In an interview with the boy's teacher, i a pressman obtained an idea of the peculiar working of the child's mind. Not only does he write upside down, the! teacher said, but be also sees upside down. For instance, if ho has to write a small j "li." the result is a "y" written back-' wards; that is to say he commences to form the letter at the tail-end and work! backwards. The same operation takes i place when he frames such letters as "u" and "m". the effect being that the letters written are "n" and "w" respectively. His mind acts in a similar topsv-turvey manner when he is set to copy any figure I ' or outline drawing. His reading, how-1 ever, is not affected by the brain's pecu-1 liarity. Though it i's evident that ho 1 sees letter upside down they make appar- ' cntly the same impression on his mind i as upon the mind of an ordinary boy, and; he can read his words with as much faci-1 lity as any other child of .similar age. ! The child is just learning to read and ' write and to copy blackboard drawings, and every effort has been made to alter i his abnormal method, but without euccess.
