POSITION OP THE PARTIES, EFFECT OF ABSENT VOTE. LABOUR FORGING AHEAD. MAJORITY OF 7 TO DATE. THE NO-LICENSE PROPOSAL. In connection with the State elections, Labour retains the Bat-hurst and Burrangong seats, after hanging in the balance for several days. Tho absentee vote provided the winning quotas, making the position of parties :— Labour 42 Liberal , ... 35 Independent 1 Second ballots will bo required in ,12 instances. Tho date of the second ballot in tho country has been altered to December 20. The country electorates of Goulbtirn, Gloucester, and Hartley have carried the proposal for a reduction of licenses. The Court will be faced with a problem in the Mosman and Dnlwich Hill electorates, which also carried reduction. Each contains two hotels, and the Act empowers the Court to reduce up to 25 per cent. of the total number, while it also enacts that the Court shall carry out the will of the electors.
