The country is still under the influence of the depression that has prevailed during tho last few days except in the West Coast and extreme south of the South _ Island. Rain has been general, and heavy in many parts. Strong easterly and northerly winds have predominated.

The Wairuna is expected to leave Suva today, for .Wellington with fruit. She is' also bringing raw sugar for Auckland. ~ / The Union Company's • training-steamer Aparima was expected to leave Calcutta last luesday for Lyttelton diroct. The E.M.S. Niagara. is duo at Suva this evening from Vancouver and Honolulu. She 1.1 expected to leave, the Island port tomorrow for Auckland, and should arrive hero on Tuesday next. >

The Rosamond' arrived from Oisborne last evening and berthed at No. 2 Jetty to load general cargo for Tolaco- Bay and Gißborne. bne sails to-morrow afternoon. The following vessels are' expected to be within range of the Auckland and Wellingon radio stations to-night :—Talune (Ra*otonga to Auckland), Zealandic (Auckland to Napier), Maunganui (Wellington to Sydney). Indrapura (Sydney to Auckland), and H.M S. Pyramus (Wellington to New Hebrides). The stoamor Ncreha'na. bound from Wellington ]° London, should be within range of the Chatham Islands station to-night. The Maunganui, which arrived at Wellington on Wednesday afternoon from Sydnoy, is announced to leave the Southern port'at 5 P.m. to-day for Sydney direct. , The steamer Clan Sutherland will-pro-bably bo removed from the Calliope Wharf this morning to a berth at the King's Wharf to complete the transhipment of the cargo of nickel ore from the dismasted ship Clan Macfarlano. The Clan ■ Sutherland will also load a quantity of wool, flax, kauri gum, and other' cargo. She will probably sail for Hamburg on Monday. . • .

WHAKATANE LEAVES SYDNEY. ' Cable advice received by the New Zoaland Shipping Company intimates that the steamer \\hakatane was despatched from Sydney a 8 a.m. yesterday for Auckland, in continuation of her voyage from Montreal. The vessel is due here on Tuesday mOrning next, and after discharging 800 tons of Canadian merchandise, visits. Wellington. Lyttelton. and Dunedin to put out the remainder. V TO LOAD AT MONTREAL.. .The New Zealand Shipping Company ad vises that the steamer Jeseric. 4816 tons. Captain R. White, of the Bank Line. Ltd.. has been fixed to leave Montreal about December 20 for Australian and New, Zealand ports, in place of the Kumars. Tho vessel is due here about February 26. ' LUMBER FROM PUGET SOUND. Advice has been received locally to tho effect _ that, the four-masted ' American barouenlinc Koko Head, 1084 tons, has been chartered to load a cargo, of one and a-half million feet of Oregon pine at Puget Sound for . Auckland on behalf of tho . Leyland--0 Brien Timber' Company. Ltd.
