FACTORY BUTTER COMPETITIONS. Probably the m ? st important compehor^.rr 11 , 0 ," V vith winter So 1f ° f A" All , ckland Association were those for factory batter and cheese. Owing to the fact that the winter show was 2 held th l, year, these competitions havo «™ to the attractions of the simmer show, and yesterday the awards pt the judge were announced. In each of our classes, six prizes were awarded, and or .these the competition was keen.' In the class for butter taken from ordinary parcels passing into the grading stores for export 17 entries were catalogued, and trom keen competition the sample boxes from the Lepperton Co-operative Dairy factory, Taranaki, „d Matakana Cooperative Dairy factory were judged to be equally the best, each scoring 95 points. , In the class for butter manufactured under the most favourable conditions, 16 entries were revived. Three exhibits were of such high order that the judge was unable to distinguish between them, and he there- . ore. placed the Oruru-Fairburn Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Mangonui, the Taihape Co-operative Dairy Company, Ohutu, and Matakana Co-operative Dairy Com""SMS! ° r - first and awawl ed each exhibit 95* points. The cheese exhibits were also excellent in both classes, the winners obtaining a large percentage of points. The large white and coloured fullcream cheese classes were both won by the i Tank! Dairy Company, Taranaki, the points scored in each case bein«- 95 The judge (Mr. A. A. Thornton, Go vernment, grader), in referring to the , butter, said it was mo-,t pleasing to handle the classes the quality of the exhibits being highly satisfactory. The most important oass was that in which all the. exhibits were taken from ordinary export consignments, and thev proved to be remarkably good in quality and, moreover, Rave a true indication of the excellence of the article which is being regularly sent to the Home markets. Factories from ' as far south as Dunedin, and as far north as Mangonui, competed. ■ The exhibits of cheese wore said to be very fine, both in the white and coloured classes. Factories situated in the Taranaki, Wellington, and Auckland Provinces competed. The qua% of the exhibit of the first prize winner was excellent.

The quantity in the farmers' dairy witter classes is diminishing each year. This is no doubt brought about by tho fact that the farmers in the Auckland Province are going in more largely for home separation. The quality of tho winner's exhibit in the unsalted, class is fairly good, but in the salted class the flavour, character, ana" colour could bo much improved, CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS.
