LOSS OF THE VOLTURNO.
CONJECTURE BY CHEMIST.

London, December 10. During the inquiry yesterday into the loss of the Volturno, a chemist from the Home Office, suggested that the fire was caused by friction between barium escaping from damaged casks and wood during the heavy rolling of the vessel.
