WARNING AGAINST LIQUOR.
GOOD TEMPLARS' REQUEST.
POSTERS IN THE STREET. I
The letter from th.3 International Order of Good Templars requesting the. City Council to instal drinking fountains at the Symonds Street end of Grafton Bridge and .at the entrance to the Domain in Park Road, and also asking that posters be placed about the city drawing attention to the danger of alcoholism, was agais( considered by the council last evening. The Works Committee' recommended that the question of a drinking fountain be referred to the Electric and Water Committee for its favourable consideration ; and that the request for the fixing of posters be declined.
Mr. Bagnall said that a deputation from the Templars would wait upon the council at its next meeting with reference to the display of posters; and he therefore moved that the latter part of the recommendation be held over for a fortnight. Mr. Mennie : What is this deputation about?
The question aroused laughter and a volley of ejaculations. Mr. Mennie : I have no doubt we will have to listen to a lecture about prohibition. That is what it amounts to.
Mr. Entrican : It will be a proposal perhaps to give us more cold "water. Cold water is good for all of us. We ought to hear this deputation, even if it is about prohibition, just as we hear any other deputation that comes along. Mr. Bagnail's motion was carried.
