SPORTING.

A SENSATIONAL ST. LEGER.j FAVOURITE RUNS LAST. VICTORY OF an outsider. By Telegraph—Press Association— "London, September 10. The Doncaster meeting was continued today, when the 137 th St. Leger was brought up for decision. . Mr. W. Raphael's colt, Louvois (winner of the Two Thousand Guineas) ruled favourite, but he sadly disappointed his connections. The following are the details of the race: — . THE ST. LEGER STAKES of 6500 sots, .by subscription of SOsovs each. For entire colts and fillies foaled in 1910. Colts, 9st; fillies, Bst 111b. The nominator of the winner to receive 500sovs out of the stakes, the owner of the second horse 400sovs, and the owner of the third horse 200 soys. One mile six furlcng3 and 132 yds. Mr. W. Hall Walker's b c Night Hawk, by Gallinule—Jean's Folly 1 Mr. 3. B. Joel's b c White Magic, by Sundridge—La Vierger ... 3 Captain J. H. Greer's b c Seremond, by DesmondSerenata 3

Louvois led for half the journey. Half a mile from home the favourite was beaten, and White Magic took charge, only, however, in turn to give place to Night Hawk, and the latter finishing up his task in great style, drew away and won easily by two lengths. Louvois was last. Time, 3m 3 3-5s (a record for the race).

The win of Night Hawk was a great surprise, and it may be inferred, therefore, 'that he started at an outside price. So little did Mr. Hall Walker think of night Hawk's chance, 'that he did not even trouble to make the journey to Doncaster to see his colt run. vln the decision of the Breeders' St. Leger, at Derby last week, Louvois gave Night Hawk 151b and a beating, and on that form the latter was fairly counted out all round for the big event at Doncaster.

Night Hawk was not called upon to race at two years old, and so far as can he gathered, his form this season was of a very poor character. The St. Leger winner was privately bred in Ireland by his owner, Mr. W. Hall Walker, who owns a great stud at Kildare.
