tieftl action. Mr. Harvey described the miners as the pioneers of political activity. Money expended in that direction was th-.. finest investment ever made. (Cheers.) The British Board of Works strikers have decided to continue the strike until all the "blacklegs" are withdrawn. Employers in the coal trade have retaliated by locking out 1000 unionists. No coal is being delivered in the city.

JOHANNESBURG ARRESTS.

Watorston, the secretary of the South African Labour Party, and Kemi.Ji, a prominent strike leader, have been arrested on a charge of making seditious speeches similar to < that of James Clark, of the Town ' Council, who was arrested yesterday. BROKEN HILL TROUBLE. , A cablegram from Sydney, dated Soptember 4, says that the Shop Assistants' Association at Broken Hill has defeated a proposal to resume ponding an award. It has been decided to continue the strike. The central executive has passed a resolu / lion calling for a levy in support of tho strikers.
