SEASON'S FLOWER SHOWS.
DAFFODIL CONFERENCE.
A discussion on "Ideals in Daffodils" will be introduced by Professor A. P. W. Thomas at the annual daffodil conference, which will be held in. the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. The conference is open to members of the Auckland Horticultural Society and their friends. Staging and vases will be provided for those desiring to exhibit blooms of choice, rare, or late varieties. In pursuance of a scheme recently adopted by the committee, awards will be given for the most meritorious exhibits, with a view to the granting of a champion diploma to the most successful exhibitor at the four similar meetings to be held during the season. The chair will be taken by Mr. J. W. Tibbs, vice-president of the society.
An important programme of shows has been arranged by the society for this season. It has already been successfully inaugurated by the spring show at the end of last month. The summer show will extend this year over five days, from December 2 to 6. It will be inaugurated with competitive displays of carnations, picotees, roses, and sweet peas 'on ,the first two days, with an art flower show on December 4, children's show on December 5 and 6, and a flower carnival on the closing day. A show of pot plants arid fruit has been fixed for December 30 and 31, with an additional attraction of a display by Mr. H. A. Fox, of Wellington, of 1000 carnation blooms, and a special exhibit of sweet peas by Mr. Trevethick, of Wellington. The society has also arranged a fruit and vegetable show for February 20 arid 21, at which cut flowers and pot plants will also be exhibited. The chrysanthenuni show will be held on April 16. 17 and 18. •
