By Telegraph—Press Association— Copytight.
Capetown, August 25. At a banquet last night in honour of the officers of the two warships of the Australian Navy, Mr. W. P. Schreiner (formerly Premier of Cape Colony) made a notable speech. Mr.* Schreiner expressed the hope that the Imperial Council would become an established fact, and that problems of the Empire could then be laid before the oommor council of the Motherland and the Dominions. They would then get to know more of each other's needs and circumstances. This was essential to the upkeep of the spirit of Empire. South Africa was true to the ideal of Empire, and, though possessing her own peculiar problems, recognised her responsibilities in ■ regard to the navy. ■ Mr. Schreiner emphasised- the fact that the separate navies of Canada and Australia did not indicate a desire to divide in Imperial matters. The warships are being visited by crowds of sightseers, conveyed: by special trains from far inland.
