SALARIES OF TEACHERS.

MINISTER'S PROMISE WELCOMED.

[BY telegraph.—press .ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. The promise of the Minister for Education to submit a, new scheme of salaries for teachers next year was reviewed at a wellattended meeting of the Wellington branch of the Educational Institute this evening. A motion was passed " That the institute is glad to hear through its executive that it is tho intention to bring in legislation so as to review, if possible, the basis on which teachers' salaries are paid, and to raise salaries, and suggests any increases to be made shall date from January next." The feeling was strongly expressed by several speakers that there was urgent need for betterment of teachers' salaries. A motion that the increase should be £10 all round was rejected.
