EVASIONS BY JAPANESE.
AN ATTEMPT THAT FAILED.

Ninety-nine Japanese land companies with an aggregate capital of 2,000,000 dollars have been authorised during July and August, thus largely defeating the aim of the anti-Japanese legislation passed in April by the Californian Legislature. A second attempt by Japanese to evade the Californian immigration restrictions has failed. A deserted junk was espied off Point Erinof. Suspicions were aroused, and on a search being made the crew of 15 was found in the woods.
