Russia has been enjoying one of the oddest of all strikes, a. strike of monks. Father Ambrosius, the head of the sjreat monastery of St. Michael, near Maikop, is an extreme ascetic. He thinks trousers a, sinful luxury, will allow nothing warmer than a simple cloak in the depths of winter, and permits the scantiest and most unappetising of food. The monks complained to the Holy Synod, but Father Ambrosius persists; so the monks have struck. They will say no masses nor > vespers nor sing in the choir until they are conceded at least trousers and decent food, '»
