Slattery, who was the Min-* ister - for Mines in the Dibbs Ministry of . ~- < 1892, is petitioning Parliament for the -.;... % ■■-"■■ refund of £1000, which-he advanced Sir,': George Dibbs, to cover the expenses of a .jvi trip to England in connection with tho ' financial affairs of the State. - .'■> Sir George Dibbs obtained the money " ■ from the Treasurer's advance account, but the House refused to ratify the expenditure on the ground of irregularity. Mr. Slattery paid private cheques of £1000 to the Treasury /to "settle the ■matter. Sub- ■.. sequently £553 was repaid him by private ; subscription. He asks that a select committee inquire into the matter. ■
