SAFETY IN SPLIT SKIRT.
TWO WOMEN AND A BULL.
New York.. August 1. Two Pittsburg ladies, Mrs. Harvey Wallace and Miss Helen ; Grasmeth, had ; as. adventure with -a bull .yesterday -which, though 'ending seriously.: enough for one of them, was not'without; its; humorous side. The _: ladies were quietly strolling s across a field, when the bull, 'doubtless provoked', to hostilities by their bright coloured sunshades, made a wild rush towards them.' With a shriek of terror the' two women started off on a race for their lives, but one of them soon found herself seriously handicapped by the dress she wore. Miss Grasmeth, attired as she was in the latest thing in the way of slashed: skirts, easily escaped from the .infuriated bea ?t, but her companion was ; not ; set fortunate. Mrs. Wallace was wearing a hobble skirtj and with the use of her nether limbs thus impeded she had no chance of getting away from the animal. Before she had done a dozen yards the bull had overtaken and knocked her down. ■ Although lucky enough not to get gored, Mrs. Wallace did not escape V being trampled upon, and as a result of her injuries she Is now in a rather serious condition.', l «
