AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY.
PROPOSED CANTON VISIT.
The Auckland Presbytery met last evening, the Rev. I. Jolly, moderator, presiding. Matters in connection with the proposal to send, on behalf of the Presbyterian Church in the Dominion, Professor Hewitson, of Knox College, Dunediu, to Canton, to visit the village mission there, were considered by the presbytery. Professor Hewit3on wrote, staling that he had not considered the matter seriously, except trom the point of view of a large oody of the responsible opinion 01 the Lauren endorsing the Foreign Missions Committees action in recommending him, and the college council cordially approving ot bis anfeCThe Moderator stated that his opinion was that a matter like that under notice should be approved of by the general assemSeveral speakers expressed the view that it would not be wise to draw on the foreign missions fund to defray tho expenses of the visit Both the foreign and home mission fluids were not in such a sound condition as to bear the strain of disbursements being made from them. The presbytery adopted a resolution to the effect that while it was cognisant of the benefits which would accrue from such a visit, it could not approve of it unless special finances for the purpose were lorthcomin leanest was received from the Auckland City Mission asking if the presbytery could see its way clear .to authorise the formation of a social service organisation. It was decided that a report should, be drawn up on the matter. . . The Rev W. Day forwarded his reaignation from Kauri-Hikurangi. The resignation was accepted, and the Rev. G. Y. Roby was anointed to the position The presbytery agreed .to an exchange of land being made at llowick tor the purpose of enabling the congregation, there to obtain a right-of-way which would give better access ,o Ow?n' hl i C Mr. J.
