WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT.]

Hamilton, Wednesday. AT the monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council, held at Ohaupo, a protest was received from Messrs. Wingate and Company, ironmongers, of Auckland, against the imposing of a penalty in connection with the Pirongia Bridge, as both they and the contractor had done, everything possible to complete the work on time. The proposal by the Hamilton. Borough Council in regard to approaching the Government to open State quarries for the supply of metal for local bodies, was discussed, but decision was deferred. The chairman and Mr. Poynter were, appointed to represent the council •at the conference of delegates from the. Raglan, Waipa, and Waikato Counties, and the Ngaruawahia Town Board to consider the percentage of the cost of the bridge over the Waikato River at Ngaruawahia to be borne by each. The proposed allocation is Waikato 45, Waipa 25, Raglan 10, and Ngaruawahia 20 pel- cent. The delegates were instructed to endeavour to have Waipa's quota decreased by increasing Raglan and Ngaruawahia. Sympathy was expressed with Mr. Teasdalo on his compulsory retirement from the Waikato Hospital Board, with appreciation of his long and faithful service, and the hope that he would be returned at the next election. The opinion was stated by the engineer that the main roads could be better attended to by the local bodies than by the Public Works Department, and he was asked to bring the matter up again at the next meeting. In his report the supervisor said the work .at Walker's Gully culvert was approaching completion, and should be finished this week, but the earthwork would take some time. The various road works had progressed satisfactorily through the month. In regard to subdivisional roads ha suggested that the property owners, if they required dedication within 12 months, should deposit sufficient to keep the roads in repair for that period. The report was adopted. Messrs. J. A. Young and R. F. Bollard, M.P.'s, who attended at the request of the council, were presented with a long list of county requirements, which they were asked to support during the coming session of Parliament. Tho amounts of the grants asked for totalled £6500.-
