STOWAWAYS' STORY.
"NO WORK IN AUCKLAND."
[from OUR OWN correspondent.] Sydney, May 31. Three young men, named George Cook, George Brown, and Leonard Billett, were charged at the Sydney Police Court to-day with travelling from Auckland to Sydney by the steamer Victoria without paying their fares, and with intent to avoid payment. It was stated that shortly after leaving Auckland the accused were found on board the vessel. They had neither tickets nor money. Their story was that there was no work in Auckland, and they thought the best thing they could do was to leave the place and come to Sydney. They were each fined 60s, with an alternative of one month's gaol.
