The Dtahuhu Croquet Club held/ a progressive euchre party • and dance "in the Public Hall '(■ on Monday evening, when there was a large attendance,»including visitors from Papatoetoe and oT Parimure. The prizes won in the ; croquet tournament were presented to the successful competitors, Mesdames Harbutt (who >'■-. took three prizes), Hodge, Mclndoe, 7 . Muir, < and ; McMullen.- Misses ■ Morrin « and O'Laughlan won the euchre prizes : for 5 ladies, ; and Messrs. F. ; Kevey and : Grant the euchre prizes for gentlemen. Messrs. H. Everett and C. Fraser officiated as ; M.C.'s at :the dance, and Mrs. Fraser as pianist. The Lands Department has y completed the survey of the Great South Road within the borough. The survey shows a number of. encroachments with \ which the Borough Council will: have to deal before the proposed improvement V;, of footpaths can be effected. . : .'.' . ..
Mr. N. T. Todd, a. member of '■■: the Borough Council, met with-: an :;accident while out riding on: Monday. .. • He was thrown from his-horse and dragged a short distance. The "Mayor, much regrets that the petition to the Borough Council to change the day for the weekly half-holiday from Wednesday to Saturday was too late to enable the council to take action. His Worship proposes that a meeting of the tradespeople be called to discuss. the situation. One >of tho largest merchants in; the town says that the shopkeepers would be unanimous , for • the Saturday holiday ;: if it were also adopted by adjacent < townslfips.
