REQUEST FOR REFERENDUM.

Bryan (Secretary of State), in a reference to. the Cali'fornian Anti-alien Bill, to-day denounced " subsidised patriotism " as sensational and mercenary. The newspapers, he says, prefer sensational headlines to truth. The Asiatic Exclusion Society is petitioning for a referendum in regard to the Bill.
