The New Zealand Shipping Company*! steamer Whakatane, which left Aucklanc on Friday, did not arrive at WeJJingtor until early this morning. Owing to a gale, she put into Gisborne for 16 hours and also met heavy weather from thenci to Cook Strait. She sustained no dam age. For some time before reaching Gis borne the Whakatane was only able t< steam two knots an hour. -
