It was shown that tne ball had been carried out most successfully, both from the point of view of those present and from the financial aspect, a credit balance of about " £18 "being shown. The members present expressed themselves as extremely pleased with the position, and mentioned the fact that that. was the first occasion in j the history of Auckland. on which a citizens' ball had been carried out without loss to 'the guarantors. It was decided that the balance in hand should be held for the meantime, for the purpose of forming the nucleus of a fund. to make some presentation to the battleship New Zealand, or for the purpose of entertaining the officers and men upon their return to Auckland late in June. ,■ The committee expressed its appreciation of the energetic and capable manner in which the secretary (Mr. Graham Reid) had carried out his duties, and emphasised the fact that while everything which might tend to the thorough enjoyment of those present had been provided, the ball had still been a financial success. Reference was also made to the valuable assistance rendered by Mr. B. C. Chilwell, who carried out the details in connection with the decorations. Members also spoke in terms of praise of the un'tiring assistance of the ladies and other committees. Special reference was made to the energy displayed by the Mayor, "to whom much of the success of the function was due. .. - , ■ '
