DRAUGHTS.
' TO CORRESPONDENTS.
A. Howe.—No. 1721 correctly solved. In 1720 you gave the play resulting from 3—7 and respectively. The former you elaborated* but in the Utter you stopped short- at fourth move, although it was evidently the stronger line of defence,- whereas the author does not dismiss it till tho 17th move. The win at fourth move may have been obvious to you, but it was not to us. That is why we said'-" As far as.it goes."' ; Sartor."—ln 1719 you went wrong at seventh move (15—19) and again at . 18th. In ■ the latter try 1317 instead of 21—25. . . ; V. Morrison.ln the published solution of No. 1717 Mr. Green noticed the dual (the line of play adopted, by you)., : After 25—22, 15— 22—18, the variation 13—17,' 30— 21—25, .27—31- leaves an-interesting position. , Black loses by .two lor one whichever piece he moves.
