THE GOVERNMENT FARMS.

The Poultrymen's Conference concluded its Auckland sessions yesterday, after a threedays" sitting. *' Papers were read before a large, attendance on the disposal of poultry products, and on the registration of eggsellers. , In the subsequent discussion the Government poultry expert (Mr. • Brown) stated that it was a great pity that allegations of unfair competition had cropped up about the New Zealand Poultry Club's egg-laying competition. He -said that the club was the one successful utility body in this respect, and as the dub had established a world's record -in egg-laying, it was unfair and unjust to allow these unfounded allegations to go forth to the world uncontra-. dieted. * , Dealing with the suggestion that the Government poultry farms compete with private enterprise, and that fanciers often purchase eggs and poultry there instead-ot going to private owners, Mr. Brown said that the fact s that last year no . fewer than 3000 people purchased-birds and eggs from the_ State farms was sufficient guarantee for their usefulness.
