At the annual meeting of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association there was a good attendance. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was decided to write 10 per cent, off the old buildings at the show grounds and 5 per cent, off the new. Mr. T. Hinton was unanimously elected president, and Mr. H. Waring vice-president. At a meeting of the Band Carnival Committee a report from the chairman showed that the receipts were £782 6s, and the expenses £405 16s 6d, ; leaving £376* 9s 6d to be handed over to the band, which, although not so large a sum as was anticipated would be realised, would,, it. was hoped, be sufficient to provide a set of instruments- Thanks was expressed to all who had assisted in the carnival, especially to th© Ladiee' Committee. Mr. J. ; G. Berry, sen., one of Waikato's pioneer settlers, died at the Waikato Hospital on Wednesday morning. He arrived in To Awamutu in "the early 60' a, and acted as manager of the late Mr. Innes Taylor's Green Hill property. He afterwards took up a farm at Paterangi on his own account. Subsequently he resided -in the Pirongia district. The late Mr. Berry took his share in manning the redoubts in times of panic. He leaves a grown-up family. A meeting of delegates from the Waipa County Council, Ngaruawahia, and Te Awamutu Town Boards was held yesterday, for the purpose of making ad justments of existing loans in the Waipa County, in consequence of the Town Board separating from the county- The various matters were satisfactorily adjusted. Very general satisfaction is expressed at the appointment of the Rev,-E. M. Cowie, vicar of St. Peter's, as archdeacon of the Waikato. in succession to Archdeacon W. L. D. Willis, who has resigned. TUAKAU. CHURCH ANNIVERSARY. The anniversary services in connection with the Methodist Church were held on Sunday last- On Wednesday evening a social in commemoration was held in the church, and was highly : successful. Father Kehoe, who has been in charge of this district for some years past, is being relieved by Father Tigar. Father Kehoe is at present enjoying a rest at Waiwera. An old resident died on Tuesday in the person of Mrs. Ellis, mother of Mrs. Moor. , The first service in the new Catholic Church was held on Good Friday. . The Social Club held its second evening on Wednesday evening at Mr. Free's residence. A number of Mrs. Bell's friends assembled at Mrs. Northmore's private residence to bid her farewell last Thursday. A very pleasant afternoon was spent, and the opportunity of presenting Mrs. Bell with a pair of silver-backed hair brushes was taken. Mrs. J. McGahan made the presentation, and Mrs Bell suitably responded. Afternoon tea was served, "while several guests contributed musical items. SILVERDALE. THE TENNIS CLUB. The local tennis members held a club tournament on Easter Monday, But showers of rain during the afternoon interfered with the play, and ultimately stopped it. Some very good games were played, and a pleasant day was spent by members of the club. The making of the asphalt court on the school ground has been delayed, owing to the Tiardness of the ground making it difficult to level the surface. This work will be done during the winter so, that tar and sand can ' be put on next spring. The country round the district has • a very dry appearance, and rain is badly needed. : Material for building the new wharf on the south bank of the river, is being landed, and a new roadway : from the south end of Silverdale Bridge to the wharf is to be made at an early date. : Several r properties in the district are changing hands, and it is stated that other farms ace also in the market-
