LAY READERS' CONFERENCE.
The annual conference of lay readers of the Auckland Diocese was held at Bishopscourt on Wednesday. About 35 delegates, representing a large number of workers throughout the diocese, were present. The conference was opened by the celebration of Holy Communion in the bishop's chapel. The annual report, read by the secretary (Mr. Charter) was adopted. A paper on the " History and Constitution of the Church in New Zealand" was read by Mr. A. G. Holmes, and discussed at some length, the discussion being opened by Mr. A. Wilson and Mr. S. E. Senior. The meeting discussed also the Solwyn Reading Society, the development of openair services, social work, the Bible in schools movement, and the new Patronage Bill. The conference occupied the whole day, and the delegates were entertained at Bishopscourt. The general opinion was that the conference was the most successful of its kind yet held-
