NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. [by telegraph.—press association.]
Palmers-ton North, Thursday. The New Zealand polo tournament opened here to-day in fair weather. The Saville Cud names included the star event, Mangaheia (Gisborne) v. Hawke'a Bay. The former. who were favourites, won eventually after a magnificent uphill fight. Otter events were more or lees one-sided. In justice to Hamilton it must be said that they trot here late to-day. and played after travelling all night on the Main Trunk. The results of to-day's play are ems follow*:—Harwairden A (Canterbury) beat Manawatu. six goals to three; . Bar-warden B • beat Fern Flats (Bangitikei), eleven to four; Mangaheia defeated Hamke's Bay, six goals to five: Rangitikei defeated Hamilton, eleven to two. •
