RETURNS FROM FRUIT
EVIL OF " GREAT EXPECTATIONS/' [bt TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION".] >' A Dunedin, Thursday. .1The secretary of the Central Otago Fruitgrowers' Association, Mr. W. Lowe, made" a reply to-day to the statement made bf Mr. McDonald, president of the New Zetland Association 'of Nurserymen, at th» 1 conference of nurserymen in Auckland <& ■ ' Tuesday in regard to the returns eecurd 4 from the fruit-growing industry. Mr. M:Donald mentioned the case of an Otajo < grower who last year secured a gross je- 1 . turn of £2000 from a fruit farm of - acres. ' ;>. Mr. Lowe said that it was " too tail 3 „ story" to ask anyone to believe. "W< . ' want to warn the public," he added " against being misled by reports as to th« results obtained from fruitgrowing. Wi have replied in times past to similar reports. This statement by Mr. McDonald s f is rather far-fetched. We want to discourage .j people from going in for fruitgrowing on,] areas from which they will . not get -• ' enough. The story that a man made v. £2000 gross return from 12 acres will tend /■» to mislead people, and wo are determined to guard them against this sort of thing."
