OCCIDENTAL. 50LB OF PICKED STONE. The manager of the Occidental mine, Thames, telegraphed the following information to the local secretary (Mr. H. J. Lee) yesterday:—" Fifty pounds ef picked stone from top stops; gold showing." The manager in his report for the past week states that 901b of picked stone was obtained for the three days ending Wednesday last. Part of the stone was obtained from the south end of the stope and part from the north end, near the Occidental rise. There are still good dabs of gold Bhowing in both places. The reef in the stope over the low level has been broken down and 101b of picked stone obtained. Both reef and country at this point are much improved. Quartz broken in the south drive, No. 2 reef, showed some nice stone. The gold is not so coarse as in the stopes, but a few pounds of quartz picked out is very fair. WAIHI. THIRD SHIFT STARTED. [by teligbaph.— oobeespondent.] '' Waihi, Friday. The Waihi Gold! Mining Company has started working a third shift on certain of the development points and shafts in the bottom workings of the mine (1160 ft level). The sinking of the shafts for tie 1300 ft level will now be pushed on as speedily as possible, • with three shifts daily, and as the shafts are already well down the required depth for opening out at another level (150 ft), should be reached in three to four months. RICH REEF UNEARTHED. DISCOVERY AT REEFTON. [BT TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.! Reeitton, Friday. , A rich find of golden stone is reported in the Pride of Reefton mine. A reef 2ft 6in wide showing gold has been struck. This mine consists of a continuation of the Gladstone and Dillon tunnels, which were abandoned some years ago. The gold runs in streaks through the stone. THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD. A meeting of the Thames Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon at the office of the local secretary (Mr. J. W. Nichol). Those members of the board present were:—Messrs. Hudson, GflfiUan, Aickin, Brown, Baker, and Lowe (Mayor of Thanjes). Mr. Hudson presided. Notices of the continuation of voluntary contributions towards the cost of unwatering the deep levels were received from the Thames County Council and the Thames Borough Council. The amount in each case was £100, to be donated during the year. The manager's report for the month was received. NORTH PRINCE OF WALES. The mine manager of the North Prince of Wales mine, Bendigo, Victoria, reports for the fortnight ending March 5 as follows:— During the past fortnight work underground has been confined to one shaft, and have been bailing two shafts. The 884 ft south level has been extended 7ft in very hard sandstone showing a big easterly underlay. I expect the "back" passed through in the sinking of the shaft to make.its appearance in the level during the coming . fortnight, also an improvement in the mildness of the country." At a sitting of the Thames Warden's Court, held to-day, the following applications were granted:—Saxon Goldmining Company, for a certificate of reduction to work the Saxon special claim with nine men for six months; New Magnet Goldmininij Company, six months' protection for the Comstock special claim; Zeehan Consolidated Goldmining Company, six months' protection for the Zeehan special claim, and the Victoria Goldmining Company, six months' protection for the Victoria special claim.
