ENFIELD HERMIT.
—. GOLD AND BANKNOTES FOUND. . A strange account of the life of a man . who for twenty-six years had lived almost . a hermit's life in a large house at Clay L Hill was given at an inquest at Enfield , recently, on William Lyne, 75 years of ' age. Lyne's nephew told the court that the . house belonged to his uncle, and that he • had resided there quite alone for twenty- ', six years. A police-constable stated that on the body were found banknote* to the , value of £100, and a large collection of gold, silver, and bronze coins. There was also a Post Office Savings Bank book , showing a credit to the amount of £210 , and a cheque-book on Barclay's Bank. A , witness said that for many years Lyne had carried a schoolboy's wallet between , his shirt and vest, and had never divulged its contents to anyone. He kept several dogs and other animals in the house, and also kept a revolver and gun near his pillow, being afraid of burglars. The verdict was death from natural causes..
