He said that something j like 300,000 people emigrated from , Great Britain last year, and the } exodus from the countryside was , causing statesmen anxiety. ( Sir Joseph Ward said that New { Zealand could take 10,000 of the sur- ] plus women from Great Britain, and all were certain of good employment. ■ , The Daily Express, with a view to demonstrating the advantages of emigration to Australia, offers to pay the passage of five unmarried men and five women domestics, Sir George Reid (High Commissioner for Australia) promising to secure them employment. The offer is the result of the Express receiving 1000 letters on the subject since the beginning of the year. '
