AUCKLAND'S WELCOME. i Tub approaching visit of the battleship- . cruiser New Zealand was referred to at r yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Ear- , bour Board. The chairman said that the i board should take steps to meet the vessel > and entertain the officers upon landing in , a fitting way. , It was decided that the making of , arrangements for a reception should be left > in the hands of a committee consisting of : Messrs. W. E. Hutchison, H. D. Heather, • E. W. Alison, and the chairman, with > power to act. It was also resolved that t Parliament should be asked to validate > any expenditure required for the entertain- ; ment. The Chairman said that it was the duty > and privilege of the board to arrange to 8 entertain the officers of this notable vessel i with a fitting welcome. 1 The motion embodying the board's dei sires was carried on the voices, Mr. J. E. Taylor alone dissenting. The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) has called a meeting of citizens, to be held " in the Town Hall on Friday afternoon, at three o'clock, to consider what form the entertainment to be provided by the citizens shall take. - ■ ' 1 THE GOVERNMENT'S SHARE.
