PROGRESS OF ST. HELLERS BAY.
Sir,Re the letter which appeared in Saturday last's issue, signed " Week-ender," I agree with ""Week-ender" that, the road at the back of the church, known as Vine Road, is a disgrace at present; in fact, it j is not safe to walk down this road at night-time, owing to the overgrowth of gorse and noxious weeds. When I had my cottage built in Vine Road 15 months ago I asked Mr. Campbell if he would kindly arrange to have a path cut through the gorse, so that I could reach my oofctage. He told me he would have the path fixed up. I spoke to him again soma time after, and he told me the road men were away haymaking. Last Saturday I went down to the Bay for the usual week-end, and I find someone has put a match to the gorae in Vine Road, and toe fire has burnt tlie best part of my hedge. Luckily for me my cottage is situated at the top of the section, otherwise it must have been burnt down. Geo. Bjsald. March 7, pl 3.
