CONTROL OF THE MANUKAU PROGRESS OF THE WORKS. The Auckland Harbour Board met yester- ■ day afternoon. Present; Messrs. J. H. Gunson chairman), H. H. Adams, J. H. Bradney, C. Bagley, E. W. Alison, J. E. Taylor, W. E. Hutcliison, P. Virtue, A. Keyos, J. Fisher, J. S. Bond, and H. D. Heather. Official notice was received from the general manager of the New( Zealand Railways that the Railways Department was agreeable that the payment of £3000 for the Onehunga Wharf and the adjoining site should be spread over three years, Mr. Taylor moved " That the whole question of the board taking over the control of the Manukatt Harbour should be deferred until after the elections of the Harbour Board in April, so that the public might know .whether the new board proposed to do.no work beyond fepairs to the harbour works at Onehunga for some years." The motion was seconded pro forma by Mr. Bradney, but on being put to the vote, Mr. Taylor was the only member who supported it. In the course of his customary report.on the board's works, the engineer stated that the contractor was making good progress with the girders to be placed between the goods sheds to enable the eltsotrio cranes to traverse the spaces betweeij the buildings. The installation of the new pumps at Calliope, Dock was being carried on with expedition, and the. contractors were well with the repairs to the dock caisson. The outer western tee of Queen Street Wharf was being demolished, and steady progress was being ■made with the western section of the Queen Street Wharf. Two tenders were received for the building of two single-storey goods sheds, I and J, on the western side of the Queen Street Wharf, as follows !r-Jones and Alexander (late Maasey Brothers), £19,052 18s 6d; J. H. Adams, £17,229 2s. The engineer's estimate was £18,968. _ The tenders were referred to the committee. The New Zealand Power-Boat Association wrote in approval of the board's proposal to establish protected areas for small boats, and asking the board to. provide and charge for moorings. The letter was referred to the committee and the harbourmaster. .■, ; The Colonial Sugar Refining Company forwarded a cheque as payment for dredging done at Chelsea, and requested that in future the cost of such work should be borne by the board. - It was decided to contribute £200 towards the cost of the bluestone facing required for the widening of the roadway to the Northcote Wharf. A letter of appreciation, covering a cheque for the board's charge for extinguishing a fire on the Stella, was received from the Leyland-O'Brien Timber Company. ' .
